HOW TO PLAY THE FRENCH HORN
|
The French horn is the hardest instrument to play in the wind section. This is because in order to play the desired note correctly, one must press the correct valve lever(s) down, and have one's mouth in the correct position of embouchure (amount of tightness of in the lips). To pitch higher notes, one must position their embouchure tightly, and for lower notes one must position the embouchure more loosely. It is important that when buzzing into the mouthpiece to play the french horn, that you keep the corners of the mouth in a set position so that air does not escape the mouth and so that you do not have puffed out cheeks. See the fingering chart, to help you learn how to play the French horn.
